What New Year?

Have a great lunar new year everyone! My life have been quite eventful over the week.
My great grandma passed away this week. She was 101 years old. I only see her once annually. I went to both the wake and funeral. It was not an unhappy occasion. I felt that was a good way to go too. Of course there was tears but noone broke down and cried.(bar the maid who took care of her for the pass 6 months. Some of my relatives had to console her.) I attended a chinese funeral when I young so I cant really remember how a funeral procession goes. So the chinese funeral I attended on Friday was actually the first one where I was fully aware of what was going on and participated in too. However, I did have some questions like what's the rationale of wearing certain clothings, which was still left unanswered. The procession was planned really well and everything went without a hitch. What really striked me was that, there was no sombre atmosphere and instead of many people just breaking down and cry, her life was celebrated. I mean, of course there was no party poppers and fire works but generally everyone felt that she had lived a good life. That was cool.
Yesterday, I took my SATs again. I needed better scores for my application for Harvard (FYI: I missed the entry aggregate of SAT=1600 by 2 points previously). Anyay I went to VJC to sit for it. The SATs are a lot more skewed towards the English part now.
No offense to all my dear VJC and RJC friends. (deepest apologies, not referring to you guys)
The examination hall was made up of mostly VJC and RJC students. Quite obvious from all the uniform and everything. Anyway there I was surrounded by the potential elite bright minds and Chinese Brainiacs and it dawned on me that some of them are really Stupid! (not in the academic sense but it seem to me a significant proportion of these guys were not very bright on all the other aspects excluding acadamically of course.
We took almost a freaking hour to just fill in the freaking particulars form. If you ever taken the SATs before it's the one where you have to write down your name and etc etc. But these guys were asking so many questions! How frustrating! "like what's my first name and last name" Especially what look to me like the chinese "SCHOLARS"! Oh man... There was this chinese guy. Probably scholar who sat in my vicinity. Sorry to generalise but you know the "Chinese Scholar Look" kept asking a invigilator how to fill up the freaking form.
Anyway on the topic of chinese scholars, the "Chinese Scholar Look" is quite easy to point out.
First is the Chairman Mao hairstyle.
Next is the rubber casio watch. (they would always take it out and place it on their desk during exams. You the digital watch alarm you hear during your exaam? well, 7/10, you guessed it, is them!)
Subsequently, it would be the 2 sizes to small uniform. The guy sitting near me was wearing a pants that was so tight, you would feel your family jewels being crushed too. This Chinese guy had V.U.L! Visible Underwear Lines and It was SOO obvious. Ouch!
Also, they would be lugging about a huge bag that looks like it can fit a cow. Sometimes if you are lucky enough you might see them whipping out their national tresures from their treasure trove of a bag. So all of a sudden, you would see him whipping out this 1.5 litre Pepsi bottle and start gurgling it. Fantastic.
Their fav ghetto hang outs are places like all the Top 3 schools in singapore and NTU. Haha.
(nb: Apologies but the sample size of this result was not very big so it is highly likely that my studies are far from accurate, but still, Do enjoy!)
Anyway, Chinese New Year is here and it's 10am and my family is still sleeping. A little different this lunar new year. Probably gonna get a lot less bonus. Civil Servants get their 0.75 month bonus. Ang Pow loving kids like me get my 0.0something bonus near the end of the Financial Year annually.
Once again, Have a Great Lunar New Year!
Had an epiphany at 9:42 am.
