Ironing Explained - Now you know!

It all makes sense now! my "engineering materials" module finally opened my eyes.

Do you really want to know why ironing your clothes really work? Explained engineering style?? hmmm?

Ya, I know you don't but too fucking bad. It was forced into my brain so now its in yours. At least yours comes with a nice lewd story.

So there you are, feeling all satisfied after washing that cotton panty you stole from your hall blockmate. You sneaky bastard! So while you're sniffing it you realised, AH! its wrinkled after washing, I gotta go iron it. So you whip out your iron and start pressing it.

Being cotten, it is made out of hydrogen bonded polymers, it also has a glass-transition-temperature(GTT- a temperature where a polymer changes from the ductile to brittle. So below its GTT a polymer becomes brittle and above its GTT, it becomes ductile.)

The hot iron which is like super hot, heats the cotton above its GTT. This makes the polymer chains within the cotton fabric more flexible and ductile. Allowing you to iron it and remove creases. Leaving the panty to cool would then allow the GTT to drop back to its original room temperature leaving your panty smooth for your extra pleasure. So to all perverts nutjobs, remember not to fold the freshly ironed panty while it is still warm or else you jsut might have created a crease yourself!

ok. now for the extra tip. If you are one of those skinny aneroxic twisted little pervs, who don't even have enough strength to iron the panty you stole, no worries! use a STEAM IRON! There is more to using the steam as a lubricant to move the iron.

With the high temp of the steam iron, water molecules(steam) are pressed into cotton polymers. This switches off the hydrogen bonding by splitting the polymer chains. With reduced linked polymer chains, the fabric is more flexible and easier to pressed into the desired shape.

Isnt that just fantastic? Yay! Now you know!
